2 slide projectors, hanging mirrors, heat from projectors
I try to give movement to a specimen.
The moths have been pinned and photographed but because of the energy at the heart of the slide projectors they can now fly.
Their images however, smear, melt and sometimes break into pieces as they pass along the walls. The moths can't keep their previous form but drift on the walls like phantoms.
Two projectors are placed on a room's diagonal. A double-sided mirror hangs from the in front of each lens. The images are reflected by the mirror to the wall.
In their effort to create light from electricity, the projectors give off heat and thus heat the metal of the double-sided mirrors. The mirrors, always hotter on one side than the other, heat the air on their hot side more than on the shaded side. The hot air pushes against the mirrors and causes them to spin. The mirrors appear to spin by themselves leisurely in one direction then other.
