plaster-liquid-crystal
Installation view
A few dozen plaster objects are presented together as a
group. Each is completely unique, a one time freezing of
liquid. Videos which document the creation of the objects show
how the living floppy liquid suddenly freezes into the
permanent sculptural forms presented here. Sometimes the
plaster monster manages to burst, and escape its fate as a
fixed scuptural object. A stark constrast is drawn between the
lifelike and the immobile.
View with LCD
An innovative mechanism was created to show the video. An
LCD screen was emebedded flush with the surface of the table.
The colored liquid crystals which hold the image were visible
only in the reflection of the mirror.
Close-up
When the plaster is about to solidify it gets very hot. Sign
that the beast is ready to rest.
